Drew/Illustrated in Photoshop with inspiration from the likeness of one my friends and in the style of one of my favorite shows I used to watch when I was younger (Totally Spies). It coincided with this friend's birthday last year and decided also to gift her this illustration (may not be relevant to the creation of the illustration but I thought it was a nice detail in the process of the project). I first looked at reference images of my friend's face and different screenshot of Totally Spies in order to decide what pose and design I would give this illustration. After doing this bit of research I did the sketch as the base layer for the drawing. Over the sketch in a different layer I drew out the outline of the character (which I also derived from the style of the original show, I very much tried to emulate the style of the cartoon) and under that the base colors of the character. Over the base colors I used a highlight layer and a separate multiply layer in order to create her shadows that I used to give dimension and detail to her body and face. I decided to use an analogous color scheme for her suit and background in order to bring a cohesiveness to the illustration and bring it all together, while at the same time allowing for the expression on her face (and her face/head itself) to stand out as I knew it would have to be a different color from the rest of the composition. I chose to create this sort of simple and star filled background, as it reminded me of strip mall photoshoot places that would have these sort of backgrounds in the early 2000s and since that is also when this cartoon aired, I thought it was the perfect setting for her to be standing in front of.
